The whole team of Get Janes has been working hard to provide you with hospital gowns that maintain your dignity.

]]>Hospitals should prioritize offering a range of plus-size hospital gowns to cater to the diverse needs of patients. These gowns should be available in various sizes, including extended sizes, to accommodate different body shapes and measurements.
Selecting a hospital gown that fits well is essential. The gown should not be too tight or excessively loose, as this can impact comfort and accessibility for medical procedures. Patients should be able to move comfortably without feeling restricted.
Full-figured hospital gowns should feature adjustable fastenings such as ties or snaps. These allow patients to customize the fit according to their body shape, ensuring comfort and modesty. Adjustable fastenings also facilitate easy dressing and undressing.
Opt for hospital gowns made from breathable materials such as cotton or cotton blends. These fabrics allow air circulation, preventing discomfort and excessive sweating. Breathable fabrics contribute to the patient's overall comfort during their hospital stay.
Look for luxury plus-size hospital gowns that provide adequate coverage. Pay special attention to the backside area to ensure that the gown does not ride up or expose patients when moving or sitting. Longer gowns may be preferable for plus-size individuals to ensure full coverage and comfort.
Check for strategically placed and easily accessible openings in the gown design. These allow healthcare professionals to perform necessary medical procedures without requiring the patient to disrobe fully. Such gaps enhance convenience, minimize patient discomfort, and preserve patient dignity.
Full-figured hospital gowns should prioritize privacy and modesty. Look for gowns that offer additional features such as overlapping panels or back closures, ensuring privacy during examinations or when walking in the hospital environment. These design elements provide a sense of security and dignity for plus-size patients.
Avoid selecting excessively large gowns, as they can be cumbersome and pose a tripping hazard. Full-figured hospital gowns should offer a comfortable fit without excess fabric that may impede movement or cause discomfort. Proper sizing is key to ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Refrain from choosing gowns that are overly tight or restrictive. These can cause discomfort, restrict movement, and impede medical procedures. Plus-size hospital gowns should balance comfort and functionality, allowing patients to move freely while providing access to medical interventions.
Steer clear of gowns made from sheer or transparent materials, as they compromise patient privacy and may cause embarrassment or discomfort. Opt for opaque fabrics that maintain modesty and provide a sense of security for plus-size patients.
Be mindful of gowns with uncomfortable seams or labels that may irritate the skin, especially during extended periods of wear. Patients' comfort should be a priority, and selecting gowns with minimal irritants is crucial. Smooth seams and non-irritating labels contribute to a positive patient experience.
Avoid gowns without adjustable features or closures, as they may not adequately accommodate different body shapes and sizes. Adaptability is essential to provide a customized fit for each individual, promoting comfort and ensuring that the gown can be adjusted as needed during the patient's hospital stay.
Size inclusivity in healthcare settings is vital, and plus-size individuals deserve plus-size hospital gowns that prioritize their comfort, dignity, and accessibility. By adhering to these dos and don'ts, healthcare facilities can ensure that plus-size patients feel supported, respected, and comfortable. During their hospital stay. The second is always a little different than the first. The good thing is this time you will be even more prepared, because you already know the basics. Here are some expert tips second time moms should do this time around...
There may be many things you find that you can re-use, but there are probably many things you may also need to throw away. Sorting through your old toys, clothes, or furniture will be an important step to opening up space for new things.
Once you go through your old stuff the next step is to think about...
While some of your new purchases may be mostly for your new child, you must remember yourself also. As a caretaker your comfort and confidence matters as you raise your family. Little treats like Get Janes Gown is perfect during pregnancy, birth, and after birth for breast feeding. This luxury gown is super soft and made of cotton and polyester. It will last hundreds of washes and snuggles.
Remember to treat yourself as well, but there is one other person you should also give a little treat...
No matter the age, you should always make sure there is a fun way for your other child to hear about their sibling or to meet them. If your other child is under 1, it is probably best to arrange the best meeting for them when the other child is born. If you have an older child, waiting until mommy's belly is big enough to notice, or when the child may be hearing about it, may be the best time to treat them and talk to them with some ice cream or something they like.

So, you may not know this, but you do have the option of either using the gown that is given to you at the hospital which probably looks something like this
Or you can purchase your own gown for your visits such as a Get Janes luxury hospital gown that looks like this.
When using the first gown you may think that the open side goes in the front, but it actually goes on your back side, and ties closed from the back. They are usually made of a paper type material, and hardly ever fit correctly to the patient, so they may look either too large or too small.
To wear the paper gown, slip both arms through the only two holes on the gown (that way is up). The opening of the gown is at the back, which is wide enough to overlap and cover the patient (most patients). There is a waist tie at the front which goes around the waist and ties at the back to keep the gown ON.
When you use a gown like Get Janes, you will have a gown that is your size, and is made of softer material. With Get Janes it's easier to put on a hospital gown, since it ties in the front and not in the back. You slip your arms through this gown like a regular jacket, and adjust the ties from the front. You will be guaranteed full coverage and a correct fit.
While each gown works, their functionality are different and can create a totally different experience for you during your visit. Get Janes understands that your comfort is especially important during times that may not be so comfortable.

Once you are in a stable standing you will be brought into a hospital room where you will spend your recovery period.
A c-section requires an epidural or spinal block; numbing of the body while you are still awake/conscious. After this is administered to you it can take several hours to regain feeling, you will have difficulty walking and will need assistance making it to and from the bathroom. Some women choose to use a catheter for several hours after delivery to make the situation simpler.
A C-Section is a major surgery and your body will need time to heal. The average hospital stay after is 3-4 days after delivery. If there happen to be any complications your hospital stay can become extended. Once you leave the hospital the total time for recovery can be up to six weeks.
There are 3 main things you can do to ensure a quick recovery time.
REST
Do not overexert yourself in any way during this 4-6 week recovery period. You may take easy and slow walks around the neighborhood but no intensive exercise is allowed during this time.

In addition to the importance of your check-up appointments it is also important that you keep an eye on your incision site for signs of infection and or any other complications that can arise.
Below are the signs a doctor needs to be informed of immediately:
These are precautions that are great to know before entering the hospital for your c-section. Remember, this is a routine procedure. Complications are rare; but being prepared for recovery is the first step to a successful one.

Patients tend to have primary caregivers such as spouses or parents. If you are not one of these people; contact the patient's primary caregiver and offer to assist with driving them to and from appointments. If they would like company on those appointments; join them during the process for extra support.
If you are musically talented and can play the guitar, piano, etc. bring it along with you on your visit and offer to play soothing live music. Music is known for its healing and uplifting properties. If you cannot play music, make a playlist of songs you think will help them get through this tough time.
Make sure to treat your relationship and conversations the same as you did before their diagnosis. Tell jokes, smile, and most importantly help them stay positive by reminiscing on enjoyable memories.
Some chemo patients receive in patient care and stay in the hospital depending on the severity of their condition. Encourage holiday spirit with brightly colored holiday decorations to bring light and joy to their everyday space. They may be missing out on their favorite holiday traditions due to treatment and this is sure to brighten their mood.
One of the worst parts of chemo is hair loss. A hat or headwear for someone going through chemo can be a practical and stylish gift that supports their journey. Consider buying them a head wrap that is soft, and easy to wear. Tafari Wraps sells stylish African-inspired head wraps that are comfortable and breathable. They even have head wrap online tutorials to help those going through chemo to master wrapping.
Many chemo patients battle cancer living at home while visiting the hospital frequently for treatment. Although this does not change the effects of the treatment they will still have to cook and care for themselves. Gifting them with a meal delivery gift card will allow access to healthy food that is already prepared right to their door every week.
Chemo treatments can be long drawn out afternoons of sitting in a chair without moving around much. One of the most common ways to make the time go faster during treatment is for patients to listen to podcasts, music, or watch movies/TV on their smart device. A comfy pair of headphones will be used extremely often during this time.
Chemotherapy can make the skin drier than usual which is why lotion is a perfect gift for a patient battling cancer.
Ginger is known to combat nausea. Order some ginger candy they can suck on when they feel this common side effect of Chemo to help relieve their discomfort.
A body who is fighting disease will need extra support and activation of their parasympathetic nervous system.(read how the parasympathetic nervous system supports our health) One of the best ways to increase the activity of a person's parasympathetic nervous system is a Hug or Handshake. It may seem simple and overlooked; but always give the patient a hug or handshake before leaving them. It will help them in more ways than you realize!

It goes without saying that Caffeine enhances your energy levels. If you are experiencing anxiety; adding caffeine to the mix will only make it worse. If you are a regular coffee drinker, set a reminder on your phone to drink decaf the morning of your visit. Other items with caffeine to avoid are sodas, energy drinks, teas, and chocolate.
Another tip for staying calm at the doctor's office is to use meditation strategies. Practicing mindful breathing techniques in addition to listening to calming music or binaural beats is a great way to hack your anxiety during stressful times. We suggest downloading guided meditation apps such as Headspace and bookmarking the following binaural music youtube videos before your visit. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we all know what that means; it’s time to think Mammograms. Do we need them? Even as we age and may be in – a perceived – safe zone?
The answer is you bet. According the American Cancer Institute Data Center, 2019 will produce a combined diagnosis total of 271,270 (both female and male), with an improving but still sobering mortality count estimate of 42,260. To break that down into statistics we can easily grasp, that’s one in six odds of not surviving this type of cancer. It makes the temporary discomfort of the Mammogram procedure seem minimal by comparison, doesn’t it? We couldn’t agree more.
But for those of us who may quiver in fear of the dreaded ‘crush’ between plates, there have been amazing advances in technology that minimize discomfort. Also, experts say that the unnatural mammary squish into the traditional machinery can spread cancer that is already present but not yet diagnosed. It makes it worth your time to investigate these new innovations who may be offered bear you. New versions of Mammogram technology utilize thermographic imagery and Mammography pioneer Hologic has created the ‘SmartCurve’ device which offers painless placement for your most tender tissue.
We know that women with genetic markers, and familial history should start screening annually as early as age 40. When we reach 50 to 54, continuing annually is universally recommended. However, patients 55-74 can often switch to biennial screenings unless risk factors are present. Guidelines surrounding mammograms for women 75 years of age and older have long been a source of debate. Now, a new study suggests a woman’s health status, and not her age, should be the deciding factor. The study was presented recently at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. In it, researchers suggest women age 75 and over who are healthy should continue getting mammograms due to the comparatively higher incidence of breast cancer among this age group. But women who aren’t healthy may not need to continue screening. The reason is simple. Mammograms aren’t considered as essential for women whose life expectancy is shorter. That’s an outrageous statement to make and it should outrage all of us.
The average life expectancy for a woman in the United States is 81years. Approximately one in four 65-year-old women today will live past the age of 90 and one in 10 will live past the age of 95. Dr. Onalisa Winblad is a radiologist at The University of Kansas Cancer Center. She is in favor of mammograms for healthy women over 75 with a life expectancy of at least five years. The age to stop screening should be based on each woman’s health status and not defined by their age,” she said.
The GetJanes mission: Taking care of your health should not mean not taking care of your health in comfort. We’ve created an alternative super comfy luxury hospital gown constructed expressly for patients everywhere! They’re durable, and get better with age – just like you! Check out our shop for some promotions supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We’ve got you covered.

It may surprise you that the technology for the mammogram was invented in the 1950’s. Dr. Robert Egan at the University of Texas developed the now ubiquitous compression screening machine, and things were flat for the next fifty years, literally. In 2019, women demand more from their annual breast health screening! Several new breakthroughs are making the Mammogram process less painful, and even enjoyable. Here’s the best of the breast innovations happening now:
Say goodbye to pain (mostly): There is nothing fabulous about having your breasts squashed between two metal plates. It’s uncomfortable at best, and downright excruciating for some women who may have cystic breasts, dense tissue, or hormonal imbalances. Thanks to Hologic’s 3D Genius Mammography system, which has ditched the compression method in favor of ‘SmartCurve’ technology that captures a pain free image while being even more accurate than the original. You can locate this option here: https://www.mygenius3d.com/find-a-facility/
Massage! Getting a mammogram can be stressful. It was determined recently that over 10,000 women opted to forgo this vital screening, than endure the discomfort or even the anticipation of discomfort. To make things more enjoyable, one hospital in Minnesota offers chair massage and special V.I.P. (very important patient?) goody bags designed to reward your newfound bravery with some hand-picked indulgences like artisanal lip balms and pedicure packages.
Atmosphere is everything: Under the traditional staging, it’s easy to agree that standing before a full length mirror, on cold tiles floors, and under fluorescent lighting is really the equivalent of trying on a bathing suit. It’s just not fun under traditional conditions! Thankfully, some forward thinking clinics are upending what we know about doctor’s offices with dimmed lighting, ambient music, aromatherapy, updated furnishings and even bamboo floors. Sure, these posh ‘mammoglams’ aren’t available nationally, but if we all make enough commotion for comforts, we think we’ll see a major shift in how we care for our women.

]]>We’re not born with shame as a newborn entering the world. We come kicking and cooing devoid of all awareness that we’re naked. While this may work for youngsters, and even several cultures around the world, in the United States we’re quickly indoctrinated into the clothing culture. But what if the anticipation of shame or judgement prevents us from seeking preventative care? What happens when we would ultimately opt to suffer in silence than expose ourselves during doctor visits? If you are nodding in agreement, and possibly even wincing as you recall postponing several appointments due to the dreaded disrobing – you’re not alone.
GetJanes found an interesting and shocking study and we wanted to share some of the highlights with you. The Wall Street Journal published an article in which patient modesty was evaluated as a core necessity for people seeking treatment. Over 46% of men and 25% of women will delay or forgo care because of the fear of nudity and embarrassment. In many cases people only sought treatment when a condition which may have been easily treatable becomes an emergency.
Please don’t let this happen to you, or the people you love. At GetJanes we want to provide you with the softest shield to embolden you as you walk through the doors. Our robes are designed for both men and women. They also come in plus size and maternity! It’s also important to us that you are empowered in your care. Things you can do in addition to bringing your Jane or Jack are:

So where are we at now with conquering this most cringe worthy cancer? We’re making progress! It is true that while over 50,000 American women and men will die from Colorectal cancer in 2018, with early detection the average 5-year survival rate jumps to over 80%.
This past week the American Cancer Society (ACS) released the updated recommendations for screenings to begin. the ACS recommends colon cancer screening every five years for those of average risk beginning at age 45. This differs from recommendations made by the U.S. Preventative Task Force (USPTF), released in 2016, which state that those with average risk should begin screening at age 50. (People with a family history of colorectal cancer are already advised to start screening before age 50.) UCSF Radiology recommends virtual colonoscopy for those who qualify or prefer it.
Screening can detect early cancers when the diseases are potentially more treatable and curable. The incidence of colorectal cancer is declining in those age 50 and over, due to better screening rates. However, an increase in diagnosis has been reported in those under age 50, especially in the African-American population.
At GetJanes we want you to be at your healthy and vibrant best. If you’re over 45, or have a family history of colorectal cancers, be sure to speak with your physician to see if its time for you to get screened. If it is, why not bring along your own GetJanes? Our commitment to comfort and dignity can help ease even the most uncomfortable of care criterions. We offer our classic robe now in Plus-size, Maternity, and our Men’s line ‘Jacks’.
